McDonogh Delivers at National Championships

TSS Swimming’s Luke McDonogh has produced a standout performance at the Australian Multiclass Age Championships over Easter, returning with 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in a week of high-quality racing.

Racing across three demanding days, Luke opened the meet in exceptional form. In the 400m Freestyle, he produced a major breakthrough performance, taking more than 10 seconds off his previous best across heats and finals to secure silver. He followed this up with a composed and controlled swim in the 200m Freestyle, improving again across rounds to claim gold.

Backing up after a heavy opening day of racing, Luke continued to show consistency on Day 2, qualifying for all three finals. A personal best in the 100m Freestyle saw him finish just outside the podium in 4th, while he added a bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke. He rounded out the day with a top-8 finish in the 100m Butterfly.

Luke finished the championships strongly on Day 3, delivering one of his most impressive swims of the meet in the 200m Individual Medley. After improving in the heats, he stepped up again in the final with a significant time drop to secure bronze.

In addition to his age group events, Luke also stepped up into the Open Multiclass division, competing against older swimmers. He achieved personal bests in both the 100m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle, breaking the 28-second barrier in the 50m, and qualifying for the Open Final in the 100m Backstroke.

The week concluded with exciting news, with Luke earning selection in his first Queensland Team. He will travel to Sydney in May to compete at the NSW Open Championships.
