Julian Angus | athlete in focus

Julian Angus has emerged as one of Queensland’s leading junior swimmers in 2026, with a sequence of high-level performances culminating in his selection on the Junior Pan Pacific Championships list and the Flippers squad.

At the Gold Coast Championships (16 years), Angus delivered a standout campaign, winning the 200m butterfly, 50m butterfly (in record time), and 200m freestyle. He also secured second place in both the 50m and 100m freestyle, demonstrating competitive range across sprint and middle-distance events.

His form continued at the South Coast Regional Championships, wh

ere he competed in the 17–19 years age group. Angus claimed gold in the 50m, 100m, and 200m butterfly, setting new records in both the 50m and 200m events. His 200m butterfly time of 2:05.89 broke the previous mark of 2:08.29, set by Bailey Armstrong in 2016.

At the Queensland Representative School Sport (QRSS) Championships, Angus again featured prominently in the senior age group (17–19 years), winning the 100m butterfly and placing third in both the 50m and 200m butterfly. He also contributed to a third-place finish in the 50m freestyle relay.

These performances led to his selection in the Queensland Schools Team, which will compete at the Australian Schools Swimming Championships in Melbourne in July.

Across the 2026 season, Angus has recorded consistent results in both individual and relay events, with particular strength in the butterfly discipline. His progression through multiple competition levels and age groups positions him as a key athlete within the current Queensland junior cohort.
